Nature Symbolism in Wedding Gowns

Some of the most oft-published dresses from New York Fashion Week this year included fashions by Nadia Manjarrez Studio, Anne Barge, Madeline Gardner Signature, Hermione de Paula, Elie Saab, and Monique Lhuillier. All these designers (and more) created stunning designs that were filled with floral imagery. Elise Saab, for instance, featured oversized floral motifs in dresses and veils, as did Reem Acra. Lela Rose, meanwhile, chose to blend the classic A-line above-the-knee cut with boho-chic guipure lace for a look that was very much ideal for nature-loving brides.

The Colors of Nature

While many designers chose to stick to traditional wedding hues like white or cream in their Spring 2023 shows, others plunged straight into the vivid heart of nature, creating dresses that celebrate the myriad of colors and textures that can be found in forests, seas, and gardens. Some of the most impressive of these dresses were designed by Monique Lhuillier.

The latter’s Liliana gown is graced with embroideries of flowers in hues like blue, red, and orange. The Sicily Dress, meanwhile, pays homage to wide flowers. Vivid embroidered flowers are connected to their stalks and leaves and the effect is of lying in a wild meadow in the spring season.

A Plethora of Designs to Choose From

Hermione de Paola’s designs contain flowers in a wide range of colors and motifs. This brand’s Kado line features dresses with lace, hand-painted, and embroidered flowers. In this collection, the flowers are light, mysterious, and almost fantastical. Kado is a true work of art, and it contains everything from sexy mini-dresses to long, romantic gowns.

Other designers that have made color the star player in their creations are Amsale, Ines Di Santo, and Nadia Manjarrez Studio. All these designers boast stunning blue dresses as part of their Spring 2023 bridal collection. Many have also chosen hues like powder lemon, pearl gray, and ashes of roses.

Colorful Gemstones

Top designers at New York Bridal Fashion Week also paid heed to the important role that wedding jewelry plays on a bride’s Big Day. Some designers had models walking the catwalk with not one, but two engagement rings, in colors such as yellow, blue, and green. Colored gemstones are trending on a big scale in the wedding scene and beyond, with stones such as Tanzanites, Tsavorites, and Green Diamonds being in big demand.

Just take a look at the rocks sported by stars like Jennifer Lopez if you had any doubt that color, fashion, and modernity are now important considerations taken into account when couples opt for a jewelry item that they want to wear proudly every day of their lives. Not all brides are opting for solitary designs. May are choosing eternity cut, crossing rings, and infinity bands, graced with pave diamonds or gemstones. Others are going for vintage cuts (such as rose-cut Diamonds) to add uniqueness to their wedding sparklers.

Delicate Accessories

If you love the idea of adding flowers and plants to your wedding look, but want to keep your material embroidery- or lace-free, consider including these elements in accessories like your veil, nails, or hair. Loveshackfancy has a cute veil bearing tiny flower motifs. Safiyaa has headbands whose curves and patterns are reminiscent of wild flora, and Ines Di Santo livened up her models’ looks with bright pink flowers, ‘woven’ into an elegant updo or half-updo. Flowers can also be subtly painted on your nails or be embroidered or hand-painted onto shoes. Flower-shaped diamond studs also make a beautiful addition to any wedding look.
